Topic 1 – Why Food? Why Not Exercise?

Before we begin the nutrition module, the point of this first topic is to prove it to you is that more than anything else you do for your health, nutrition, the food you eat, is the most important factor.

If you’re trying to lose weight, nutrition, is responsible for more than 80% of your efforts.

Most of the obese folks can actually lose dozens of pounds just by changing what they eat.

But instead they end up spending countless number of hours and thousands of rupees on treadmills or gym memberships!

Of course, exercise will, without doubt accelerate your results, but what we mean is you are not going to lose 10-15 kilos by “only” exercising and not changing what you eat.

Think about that for a while.

So we wish to quickly deconstruct weight loss for you. This is one of the things people love the most because it really breaks out weight loss into its simplest parts.

Surprisingly, this is something almost nobody does and we fail to understand why.

HOW OUR WEIGHT LOSS JOURNEY USUALLY BEGINS…

So, you wish to lose weight, right? Duh!

Let’s say it’s (another!) new year or you’re getting ready for your (or someone’s) wedding, and you say, “Okay, need to lose weight, now what? ” ….

So what usually happens, the first thing… you go and do the research.

How?

Most often, you’re going to Google and thinking “Hmm! Okay I wish to lose weight.”

What shows up?

This…

i-wish-to-lose-weight

48 million search results!

So the first few results… you get articles about food.

You talk in your own head, something like…

“Okay, so I should focus on protein… so should I be eating a lot of protein?

How much?

But then, I don’t want to look bulky, so should I be actually be eating less protein?

What about carbs?

Should I be eating more carbs or less carbs?

Don’t carbs will make you fat, should I not be eating them?

Or fat, doesn’t fat make you fat? Aren’t there good fats and bad fats?

What about high GI carbs, low GI carbs? Is too much protein bad for my kidneys?”

WHOA! STOP CONFUSING YOURSELF!

All these questions suddenly start cropping up… and you get more confused… and you frantically continue researching more.

And that’s just food…

Now, here are some other things you could be looking up.

Exercises!

And when you look up exercise, most of us think…

“Oh, ok… so should I be lifting weights? I mean if I’m a woman I don’t want to look like a builder!

Should I still lift weights?

What about cardio?

I see everybody running around the new year period, so should I just be running? I mean is that the fastest way to lose weight or what?

And then there are the supplements!

Fish oil, green tea, raspberry ketones, all those garcinia cambogia scams, and many other magic things to “lose weight in 15 days!”

Enough confusion already?

Well THERE’S MORE!

You’ve got the actual ‘diets’ themselves!

100’s… maybe 1000’s of diets!

Atkins, Mediterranean, South Beach, low fat, low carb, lchf, ketogenic, detox diets, juice diets and what not!

And to top this all, you’ve got thousands of books on weight loss and diets!

Books by researchers, by MDs, by PHDs, by institutes and by everyone who can write a book…

STOP THE MADNESS!

Just from your one single point of research, you’ve got like 20-25 things you can possibly do!
Each one of these can occupy you for months or years!
So what do you do to actually lose weight?!

How do you possibly take action with so much stuff to do?

You can take any ONE of the above topics and focus on it for years!

Do you really have 100 years to experiment with diets?

No, obviously not. How do you take action with all these things?

It’s impossible, you can’t.

That’s why you have to “deconstruct weight loss” first…

You have to break it down into a small… bite-size pieces, by applying the 80-20 Pareto Rule.

Which means, what is the 20% stuff you CAN do that will contribute 80% of the results?

Of course, we are going to tell you exactly that in the topics that follow, but first…

Let us share with you this major research study (don’t worry, we just present the summary)… and literally every experienced health/fitness coach and even Doctors know this, but most common folks do not.

A few years ago there was a fascinating study that the British Journal of Sports Medicine conducted.

They had participants exercising without changing their diet for 12 weeks.

So they had people exercise 5 times a week, 1 hour a day, for 12 weeks (that’s 3 months).

Now guess how much the people lost in 3 months of exercise without changing their diet?

On an average, they lost 2.2kgs.

Now that’s not much right, but here’s the thing, for 2kgs of weight loss over 12 weeks, they worked out an average of 12 hours for every 1/2kg lost !

And here’s the kicker, 50% of those people only lost 1kg. 50% – Half of them!

Half of those people spent 30 hours working out for every 1/2kg lost.

All by exercising without changing their diet.

Go figure!

Now the converse is equally true.

There are many, many studies that have shown that if you just change what you eat without exercising, you can lose a ton of weight.

In fact we have our own clients losing like 20 and 30kgs without doing any exercise!

Bottom line – Food is the most important thing to focus on… by far.

And so many people come to us and they say, “Look, I’m exercising so hard.”

And they really are.

They’re pushing themselves. And honestly, they’re putting themselves through hell, but they don’t need to…

They rather need to be focusing on the food.

They need to be smarter about what they’re eating.

And same goes for you, we suggest you to begin your own nutritional journey by understanding that you need to focus on your food if you’re trying to see any kind of physical change on you.

One more important thing.

“Weight lost” is not always a good measure. You must focus on the “fat loss”.

Why?

Because you don’t want to lose weight if you’re losing muscle… because the more muscle mass you have, the easier it is keep fat off.

Read that again.

The more muscle mass you have, the easier it is keep fat off.

So instead of focusing on those 25 different things, you need to deconstruct weight loss, and narrow down it down to few key things you can and will do!

Use the 80/20 Rule.

When 80% results come from just nutrition, you already know where you must focus.

And this, this is exactly what we are going to teach you going forward… Instead of 100 different tips, we are going to show you the few key, real world techniques that will help you lose a lot of weight, nope, fat, without counting calories or losing your sanity!

Welcome to the nutrition module 🙂
